Big mouth will get you anywhere with girls and our hero, Larry Laffer, definitely realizes that. He's sleazy? Sure. Not very good looking? Yup. But these factors don’t bother our favourite pervert on his quest for love and more.
We had to wait for over a decade to get our hands on a new Leisure Suit Larry game. Well, not really new, more of a liposuction of the original game, Leisure Suit Larry in the Lounge of the Lizards, which came out in the 1987. Brief recap for those who are not familiar with the storyline of the original: Larry Laffer is some 40 year-old virgin. One day he has enough of everything and decides to go to Lost Wages (parody of Las Vegas) for search of his one true love. The original broke the ice because of its content. It was the first game that went mainstream in which the main hero dealt with drunks, ladies of the night, hanging out in bars, back alleys, casinos, discos and dirty magazine stores. It was fun and a bit on the edge as mainstream gamers were not really that acquainted with themes Larry dealt with. Sure, he did it with a sense of humour, but still. Naturally the game was a big hit and sequels followed quickly, Love for Sail (1996) being last of them (and by opinions of many, the best). So naturally everyone got really excited when Al Lowe, the creator of the series, reached out to people through Kickstarter, pleading fans to help out financially with the remake of the fist Leisure Suit Larry game. The response was amazing and Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded was born. So, is it any good? Well, yes and no. Don’t get me wrong, the game itself is really good, humour will make you chuckle all the way, cartoonish graphic is tender to the eye and puzzles are challenging. The soundtrack of the game is so good that it’s worth listening on its own. All in all, a great adventure game... For those who did not play the original. For gamers familiar with Leisure Suit Larry series, the game will not offer enough as there is very little content added in comparison with the original. A few more puzzles and one extra girl and that’s about it. So if you’re not familiar with the series, or even the adventure genre, you should definitely get it, it’ll be worth your while. For those who played Larry a long time ago and the memory lane is all foggy, well, you should consider revisiting Lost Wages. For those who remember the puzzles and everything else, well, it’s safe to say you won’t miss out on anything if you skip this one.
